bio

The Coronavirus pandemic of 2020 was an unlikely catalyst that brought together the Afro-Fusion Project. While sheltering in place, like most in the country, artist/percussionist Marcus L. Miller began writing some music with a familiar feel from Nigeria & New Orleans. Within the year, he reconnected with New Orleans based artist Big Chief Shaka Zulu and the Afro-Fusion Project came to be.

The Afro-Fusion Project is a ten (10) piece ensemble which blends the New Orleans traditions of jazz and the Black Masking Indians with a World & Afro-Beat pulse reminiscent of the late Tony Allen of Fela Kuti fame. The group just recently performed their first official performance (post Pandemic) at the William Grant Still art center in Los Angeles, CA. The band consists of professional musicians based primarily in Los Angeles coupled with a few components from Shaka’s New Orleans crew.

Currently, the group’s bio is being written in real time. Each new day brings about another moment in the history of this ensemble. This is chapter one…the beginning. Stay tuned in as the story unfolds.
