Executive Producer/Director Marcus L. Miller presents West Afri-(LA), a six part documentary series. The series focuses on the introduction of the West African djembe drum & dance culture to the West Coast of North America in the early 1970’s. Los Angeles was the initial landing spot, but it spread as far north as the Canadian border.
The documentary consists of interviews with members of the West African drum & dance community. Among those interviewed are legendary dancers Assane Konte, the Late Nzingha Camara, and Lula Washington. Notable percussionists include Leon Mobley, Moshe Milon, and Magatte Sow.
